Nold's Challenge Event #1 Recap

I'll be posting regularly here for the next 6 weeks about a little tournament challenge being held between myself and a group of friends. 18 players, 6 weekly NLHE tourneys, a points system based on each tourney finish, and a trip to Vegas + buy-in to a $1500 WSOP event for the overall winner (most points at the end).

Tourney 1 went down last night. The play was nittish but overall pretty solid IMO. The structure worked out pretty well, allowing for quite a bit of play, especially during the first hour. The entire event finishing in 2 hours, 40 minutes.

Congrats to Brec for taking it down - consider it charity for the jobless dude that we know needs the money the most :)

See the results here:

Brec caught on fire after getting sucked out on early (getting it all-in with K2 vs. 99 on a 7-2-2 board, turn is a 9), climbing up from the 1500 chip range and never again flirting with going busto. At least until the final hand, where he SHOULD have almost gone busto, getting it all-in PF with A7 vs. AQ against Rodney, and flopping trip 7s to take it down.

Biggest Cooler Hand - Sam getting crippled in the 3rd or 4th hand of the tourney after flopping a set of 5's, and finding himself up against Craig's set of K's.

There were a ton of candidates for biggest suckout hand, but I don't have the hand histories with me here at work, so I'll have to sift through those later. I can probably nominate myself for biggest donk hand of the night, pushing with 84o when we got down to 3, and getting hero-called by Rodney with K8.

Here is the points standings after the first tourney:
