Our 6th and final tourney is done and I finished in 2nd, ending the series on a sweet note! Alright, I know I can't live down what really happened, so I'll update the status of that ending note from "sweet" to "bittersweet". Truth is, I had a dominating lead going into heads-up with Hef. I was sitting some 36K in chips to his 6K. But I went cold early. My best shot was an all-in with 44 against AT, but a T on the flop snuffed that out. Then the walloping began in earnest. Nearly every move I made, raising with garbage (pretty much all I was dealt), was met with an all-in shove. Hef got hit hard by the deck and by some good flops. That's right, the Unluckiest Player In The World found the God-mode switch. We were even after maybe a dozen hands, and then it was over after another 10. Completely brutal. I needed to just wait it out, but I tried to turn my luck around too quickly and ran smack into Hef's 28o, which hit 2 pair on the turn and crushed me when I pushed in against him. GG Hef.
The biggest congratulations go to Scott, who, despite a weak finish in the final tourney, takes down the overall challenge and wins the WSOP prelim event prize package. 2nd place is Rodney, who will get a nice 15% stake in Scott's action. Heflin moved up to 3rd after his win last night.
Interestingly, the Drop-Your-Worst-Score provision ended up being meaningless, as it would not have changed the standings at all had we not used that rule.
Heflin won the most cash and had the most cashes (3), but a pair of early bounces kept him from winning the prize.
Scott finished 7th in cash won, but his amazing 3 bubble finishes propped him up in the points and the rankings. Consistency beats streakiness. But we need some streakiness at the WSOP!
Time to pick the event and start planning a big trip to Vegas to support Scott in his effort to bring us all home some big time dough.
